Accessing Data Through the Socrates Data Web Portal

The SOCRATES DATA SYSTEM FOR STATES includes a customized DATA WEB portal that provides access to the State Report Card; District and School Report Cards; other data displays; text information; reports; resources for educators, parents, and policy makers; and links to key web sites. The Data Web offers varying levels of access privileges to maintain security.

There are several major benefits of the DATA WEB portal:
  • Ease of Data Access: Access to data should not be dependent on technology skills. The Data Web allows users to access pertinent data reports without having to learn software or how to set up a report to get the information they need. Technical support to users is not needed.

  • Data Security and Confidentiality: Parents and policy makers are justifiably concerned about protecting the confidentiality of data. The Data Web portal provides access to data reports only; the data warehouse is not connected to the Internet. The reports are group data only, and any identifiable data on students is not included.

  • Quality Assurance: SEA personnel and others can be assured that consumers are getting accurate data because the reports are produced by skilled data specialists and checked for accuracy. Only trained and authorized personnel have access to the data warehouse. The database can not be queried or modified by others.
