Supporting State and Local
Accountability and Improvement

The SOCRATES DATA SYSTEM offers state education agencies unparalleled power, versatility, and ease of use to meet accountability requirements, provide extensive data to LEA's, and plan and monitor improvement.

Fully customized for your state, the SOCRATES DATA SYSTEM produces ALL of the data elements required for State, LEA and School Report Cards (NCLB Section 1111(h)). AND allows SEAs to...
  • Examine the differences between schools that make AYP and those that are in all other status categories--differences in school characteristics, community characteristics, student characteristics, and teacher characteristics.

  • Correlate state assessment results with NAEP results and other indicators (e.g., graduation rates) at the state, district, school, and sub-group levels.

  • Disaggregate all performance indicators by student demographics, school and district characteristics, teacher characteristics, and school approval status.

  • Provide LEAs with in-depth data to support their improvement efforts.

  • Produce the data required for the State Report Card.

  • Create a longitudinal research database for analyzing the factors associated with different levels of school and student group performance, including school and community characteristics, teacher quality, special programs, and support services, education funding, opportunities to learn, school approval and accreditation.

  • Correlate school and district fiscal data with student performance and the characteristics of schools, students, and teachers.

CRM's SOCRATES DATA SYSTEM gives state education agencies this capacity and more. SOCRATES is a suite of fully developed applications that are highly customizable. This means that the system can be up and running as soon as data are available.

The system has three components:
  1. A fully-developed relational database software application that integrates data on the characteristics of students, schools, programs, and teachers and links it to performance on state assessments, NAEP, other assessments, AYP status, and other indicators.

  2. Varied report format options for presenting data to different audiences.

  3. A customized web portal providing access from any browser to data reports, information, and resources.
