Assessment Literacy

PCG-CRM offers services in assessment literacy that deepen district and school staff understanding of how varied assessments can be used most effectively to support student learning and achievement.

Based on the PCG-CRM Assessment Literacy Handbook (Slaughter, 2008), we offer Professional Development Institutes to increase the assessment literacy of individuals and groups responsible for interpreting and applying data from state and standardized assessments.

Our assessment curriculum includes such areas as:

  • Assessment and the learning process
  • Assessment and accountability
  • Different types of tests
  • Types of scores and test scales, achievement status and gaps
  • Achievement gain or growth
  • Using test data for decision making

Our Professional Development Institute’s assessment literacy training is driven by our Essential Questions approach that organizes data use around a cycle of inquiry and is grounded in three core components of systemwide data use:

  • Data Quality
  • Data Capacity
  • Data Use
